Challenge:
Words Apart was approached by a client to provide English live captions for an annual department conference of over 300 delegates.

Being an internal conference, the names, places and content was familiar to the delegates and therefore required us, as external providers, to become “experts for the day” and ensure a seamless coverage of every spoken word.

As with any live event, quick thinking, a proactive attitude and teamwork are required to make it a success.

Solution:
We put a team of captioners together to cover the day’s events allowing for clean handovers and breaks to ensure a high-quality output throughout the day.

We worked collaboratively with the client, venue and external AV provider to ensure our captions would be suitably displayed on large screens in the room alongside the speakers and presentations.

Given the nature of the conference, research and preparation and training on names and industry-specific vocabulary was required prior and throughout the event to ensure precise and accurate subtitles.

Conclusion:
We successfully covered the day’s six hours of live sessions, including presentations, fireside chats, an awards ceremony and even a comedy stand-up set!
